Domingos Rego

(Castelo Branco, 1965)

He lives and works in Azeitão and Lisbon. He holds a degree in Fine Arts/Painting (1994) from FBAUL, where he also completed his Master's in Painting (2006) and his Ph.D. in Fine Arts/Drawing (2013). Since 2002, he has been teaching Painting (until 2005) and Drawing (ongoing) at FBAUL.

Regularly exhibiting since 1993, his work in drawing, painting, and, more recently, publicly, photography, engages with references from art history, confronts the natural and the constructed, addresses time in the visual arts, and promotes reflection on the relationship between humans and the forces of nature. These creative directions have manifested in various exhibitions, including: Banhos de Luz – A Seurat (Galeria Palmira Suso, 1999), Sete Virtudes, Sete Vícios (Casa da Cerca, 2000), Sete Vícios, Sete Virtudes (Galeria Palmira Suso, 2000), Pinturas do Paraíso (Galeria Palmira Suso, 2002), Ócio (Galeria Palmira Suso, 2005), City (Galeria Palmira Suso, 2007), Inclinação Natural (Galeria João Esteves de Oliveira, 2010), Uma presença silenciosa (Galeria Alecrim 50, 2012), Distopia, Pavilhão 31, Lisbon, Traço Contínuo, Desenhos de Domingos Rego e Cecília Costa em diálogo (Galeria João Esteves de Oliveira, 2015), Scala (Galeria Alecrim 50, 2015), Héstia, a joint project with João Francisco, Plataforma Revólver, Lisbon, Do outro Lado do Espelho, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon, 2017, A Preto & Branco na Coleção da Fundação PLMJ, Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes, Lisboa, 2018, Les Printemps de Haute-Corrèze, Variations portugaises, Centre D’Art Contemporain de Meymac, France, and in 2023, Lucis, A lenta construção da paisagem (Casa da Cultura, Setúbal) and Do arquivo, do acervo, Works from the Coleção Figueiredo Ribeiro, Curated by João Silvério (Museu Ibérico de Arqueologia e Arte de Abrantes, Abrantes). In 2024, he is part of the exhibition No Retrovisor, curated by António Olaio, at the Colégio das Artes da Universidade de Coimbra.

He is represented in several private collections and is part of the following institutional collections: Assembleia da República, Lisbon; Banco de Portugal; Casa da Cerca, Almada; Fundação PLMJ, Lisbon; Millennium BCP; Coleção Marin Gaspar, Alvito; Coleção Figueiredo Ribeiro, Abrantes.
